Tales of Life & Living in Early Maidstone Township (1800-1920)
Kirk’s family was among the early pioneers who homesteaded in 1835 in what was later to be known as Maidstone Township. Those who received land grants from the British or were able to buy 100-acre parcels of land were forced to rely on their wits and each other to survive against the surrounding wilderness. Kirk will take you through what life was like for those who ventured into this part of Upper Canada searching for a better life for their families. He will also cover the history of the forgotten Whitson Settlement also known as the Village of Wesley that sprang up on property owned by his ancestors in the mid 1800’s. Class Size: Max. 95
