Memories of Merlin
This class is a presentation on the history of the small village of Merlin in Chatham-Kent. It was once a thriving community comprising many enterprising men and women who built it from the surrounding forests. Many photos are included as are many names of the inhabitants who developed the area. Noted Country and Western singer Michelle Wright considers Merlin “home”. Class Size: Max. 95

Instructor: Julie Magerka
BIO NOTE: Julie was born and raised in Merlin. She moved away to attend university and then worked in Windsor, Ottawa, and Toronto in newspapers & publishing, but mainly in teaching. Julie started as a high school teacher and then moved into post-secondary education at the college level where she stayed for 25 years. She retired in 2010 and moved to Essex County (Belle River) in 2012. Julie continued working by teaching tech to seniors and writing articles on tech and the history of her hometown. The first three years’ worth of those articles became a book in November 2020 with proceeds to the Seniors’ Club in Merlin.
