Hard Road to Victory: The Chatham All-Stars Story
In the fall of 1934, a team of Black athletes earned the opportunity to compete for a major baseball championship. More than a decade before Jackie Robinson broke baseball's colour barrier in the major leagues, this team blazed a trail for others to follow. In this course you will learn how the Chatham Coloured All-Stars rose from a bunch of barnstormers to provincial champions. "Hard Road to Victory: The Story of the Chatham All-Stars" has been written as a children's book, but suits a much wider audience, and provides people with multiple opportunities to discuss issues of racism, intolerance, and ignorance. Join author Brock Greenhalgh as he shares the story behind the story, and his goals for the future. Class Size: Max. 50

Instructor: Brock Greenhalgh
BIO NOTE: Brock has been telling the story of the 1934 Chatham All-Stars baseball team in one form or another for the past 30 years. Recently, he finally committed to publishing the story as a children's book. Mild-mannered elementary school guidance counsellor by day, children's author and dog-walker by night, Brock can see no reason why his beloved All-Stars shouldn’t be inducted in the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame one day.
