Communication Strategies for Dementia and Responsive Behaviours
In this course you will learn about the importance of communicating effectively with people living with dementia and different ways we can communicate with helpful tips and strategies. Participants in this course will learn about what person-centred language is and how it focuses on the person and not their diagnosis. We will discuss how an individual’s difficulty with communication can cause a person to start using behaviours to communicate their needs to those around them. We will also discuss communication approaches during the time of COVID-19. Class Size: Max. 50

Instructors: Tara Seney & Theresa Stoesser
BIO NOTE: Tara is the Education Manager for The Alzheimer Society of Chatham-Kent. She has been with the Society since 2010. Tara holds numerous certifications in the dementia field, including being a Coach in Gentle Persuasive Approaches. Theresa is with Behaviour Supports Ontario (BSO) as the Erie-St. Clair Regional Education Coordinator. She has been with BSO and the Alzheimer Society of Chatham-Kent since 2018. Theresa is currently studying Behaviour Analysis at a master's level & focuses on behavioural understanding & management in older adults.
